The redeveloped Marina Beach area in Chennai was opened to the public yesterday. The Times of India reported that the 3.1km stretch now includes viewing galleries, landscaping and fountains. Galleries, a walkway along the sands and high-tech lighting arrangement have also been added to enhance the visitor experience.

The Fiji government and tourism stakeholders said on Tuesday they expect tourism numbers to boom with increased airlines servicing Fiji and a direct flight from China to the Fiji resort city of Nadi.
    It has already been confirmed that Australian airlines Jetstar, a low-cost Qantas subsidiary, and V Australia will start servicing Fiji within months with competition expected to heat up.
    The direct flight from Hong Kong to Nadi starts on Dec. 3.

Chinese tourist arrivals have been increasing significantly over the last one decade, indicating that China is becoming one of the top markets for Nepal’s tourism, the Kathmandu Post reported on Wednesday.
    Compared to the arrivals from January to September in 2008, Chinese inbound during the same period this year surged by 14.6 percent to 11,583 persons.
    In 1999, Nepal hosted only 3,977 Chinese tourists.

The number of domestic tourists to China’s far western Xinjiang region slumped 26.6 percent year on year to 1.3 million during the National Day holiday, local authorities said Saturday.
    The tourism slump came despite government measures to attract visitors after the deadly July 5 Urumqi riot and a wave of needle attacks from mid August to early September.

Indonesia’s Bali launched its first coral transplantation project in Nusa Dua on Tuesday in a bid to restore the coral reefs and boost marine tourism, a media reported here Wednesday.
    The project invited tourists, fishermen’s groups and several organizations to join the Adopt a Coral program, by donating 25 U.S. dollars for a fragment of transplanted coral, the Jakarta Post said.

An international butterfly museum will be built in Pyin Oo Lwin, a northern city of Myanmar, in December this year, aimed at promoting tourism industry of the country, sources with the National Kandawgyi Garden (NKG) said on Wednesday.
