The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has reaffirmed its commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2050.”Our targets are tough. Air transport is the first industry to commit to carbon-neutral growth at the global level,” said Giovanni Bisignani, its Director-General and CEO.
IATA represents some 230 airlines that account for 93% of scheduled international air traffic. Member airlines have agreed to work towards an average 1.5% improvement in fuel efficiency annually until 2020; (more…)

Anticipating a January 2010 opening, the Life Resorts Management Company has selected a team of seasoned general managers to spearhead the launch of the Life Resort Danang. The two managers — Michelle Ford and Cyrille Stegmann, both from South Africa — previously worked as the general management team at the Life Wellness Resort Quy Nhon.

THE BASICS Once a home belonging to Hope Somoza, the widow of the former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza Debayle, this Pacific beachfront Victorian has been carefully restored into a comfortable, 21-room hotel, which opened a year ago. Costa Cruises has released its 2010 brochure, enabling customers to take advantage of “ProntoPrice”, the company’s pricing policy that deals greatly discounted rates to early bookers.
Costa will be increasing its capacity in 2010 by 16% compared to this year, with approximately 250 destinations and over 100 different itineraries.

The Italian group Costa Crociere SpA has commenced its third consecutive season operating from Dubai, with both Costa Cruises and AIDA Cruises brands upping their capacities for the coming winter. Costa Cruises will expand locally by some 50% thanks to the arrival of the Costa Victoria and Costa Classica liners, while AIDA Cruises will be almost doubling its own offer with the deployment of the biggest ship of the fleet, AIDAdiva.
