An international butterfly museum will be built in Pyin Oo Lwin, a northern city of Myanmar, in December this year, aimed at promoting tourism industry of the country, sources with the National Kandawgyi Garden (NKG) said on Wednesday.
    Over 40,000 butterflies and insects from home as well as those from China, Africa, Malaysia and Thailand will be kept in the museum established in the NKG’s orchid garden, the sources said, adding that butterfly fossil from across the country (more…)

An indoor theme park billed as the world’s biggest opened recently in Indonesia, ChannelNewsAsia has reported. The 2.2 hectare park, called Trans Studio Makassar, is located in Makassar, South Sulawesi, and features 21 attractions. The theme park is part of an integrated project which includes a shopping mall and hotels.

Lake expectations
Tourism operators in the South Australian outback have their fingers crossed the rare sight of a water-filled Lake Eyre will linger as long as possible. High expectations
Tourism Australia statistics show that for the past six years, travellers in the 55-plus category spent more on travel than any other age group. Also, in the year to September, people aged over 55 accounted for $1 in every $5 spent on domestic travel in Australia.
Naturally, the brakes are on now but research suggests over-55s still feel relatively well off compared with earlier in their lives and have much greater freedom to travel the way they want.

Qantas will again reduce its international fuel surcharges, from tomorrow.
The lower surcharges will apply to all Australian point of sale tickets issued on or after Tuesday.
“With recent falls in oil prices, we removed domestic fuel surcharges on 1 January and have now reduced international surcharges three times since October 2008,” Qantas executive general managerr John Borghetti.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, with our international surcharges to remain under ongoing review. (more…)

MELBOURNE’S $100 million Southern Star Observation Wheel is in danger of quickly turning into a giant white elephant after engineers discovered damage caused to the structure during Victoria’s recent heatwave will put it out of action for at least six months.
