A municipal standard was recently drafted to bring courtyard homestay families in the ancient city center in Beijing under regulation and provide standardized services to foreign guests who relish the idea of staying in traditional Chinese homes.
    The Beijing Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision published a series of criteria to assess homestay family services and is soliciting for public opinion.

The company that operates China’s National Stadium, or “Bird’s Nest”, says on Sunday designs for its mascot and logo should combine regional characteristics and Chinese cultural elements.
    The stadium, which hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, has started on Friday to solicit designs of its mascot and logo to “provide better environment and a better mode for the operation activities and public participation”, according to a company (more…)

SINGAPORE, December 22, 2009 - Upmarket cruise line Azamara Club Cruises is marking its presence in Asia again with the return of its ship Azamara Quest to Singapore today to kick-start her second consecutive Asian season. The ship arrived at the Singapore Cruise Centre early this morning following a 24-night voyage from Athens. She will be homeported in both Singapore and Hong Kong offering new itineraries and destinations through to April 2010.

The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) announced Monday that China will hold the 2010 Global Travel& Tourism Summit in Beijing.

The number of domestic tourists to China’s far western Xinjiang region slumped 26.6 percent year on year to 1.3 million during the National Day holiday, local authorities said Saturday.
    The tourism slump came despite government measures to attract visitors after the deadly July 5 Urumqi riot and a wave of needle attacks from mid August to early September.

Chinese tourist arrivals have been increasing significantly over the last one decade, indicating that China is becoming one of the top markets for Nepal’s tourism, the Kathmandu Post reported on Wednesday.
    Compared to the arrivals from January to September in 2008, Chinese inbound during the same period this year surged by 14.6 percent to 11,583 persons.
    In 1999, Nepal hosted only 3,977 Chinese tourists.

The Fiji government and tourism stakeholders said on Tuesday they expect tourism numbers to boom with increased airlines servicing Fiji and a direct flight from China to the Fiji resort city of Nadi.
    It has already been confirmed that Australian airlines Jetstar, a low-cost Qantas subsidiary, and V Australia will start servicing Fiji within months with competition expected to heat up.
    The direct flight from Hong Kong to Nadi starts on Dec. 3.

The Beijing-Chengde Expressway opened on Sunday cutting travel times from the capital to the city in Hebei province by half.
    The new 210 km expressway, which cost 105 yuan (15 U.S. dollars) one way, now connects the two cities in just two hours.
    And authorities say the 6.2 billion yuan road will be boom for local Hebei tourism.
